Our Past Is Part of Our Story, But It Doesn't Have to Write the Rest of It
How much of the way we live today is shaped by things that happened years ago? The experiences we had growing up, the beliefs we developed about money and security, the risks we learned to avoid, and the ways we learned to trust, or not trust, ourselves.
Sometimes we don't recognize just how much of our past is still influencing the decisions we make in the present.
In this episode, I'm joined by Georgine Hodgkinson, author of Crypto Island, a memoir about relocating to Puerto Rico in midlife and finding herself unexpectedly drawn into the world of cryptocurrency. But as we talk, it becomes clear that this story reaches far beyond crypto. It's also about looking back at the experiences that shaped her, understanding how they influenced her relationship with money and risk, and learning to see her younger self with a little more compassion.
We explore the connection between emotional healing and financial courage, why trusting ourselves can be difficult when we've spent years questioning our own judgment, and what it means to make meaningful changes without feeling like we have to blow up the lives we've built.
It's a conversation about the stories we carry, the choices we make, and the possibility of looking at our past differently so it doesn't determine what comes next.
Because our past is part of our story, but it doesn't have to write the rest of it.
